Local towns and villages
Newtons Corner is located between the market gardening town of Melbourne and historic Castle Donington. King’s Newton, leading to Melbourne is 10 minutes’ walk across public footpath and roads to the West. Castle Donington and Donington Park circuit is walkable by footpath to the East. The charming village of Wilson is a 10-minute walk South and home to a great country pub, the Bull’s Head.
Melbourne, South Derbyshire, has some good shops and great places to eat and drink. Eat at Harpurs, the Bay Tree and Amalfi White. The Spirit Vaults is brilliant for real ale and craft beer, and Stable Ales at Melbourne Hall is also fantastic for alfresco craft beer.
The best places to eat in Castle Donington are The Castle pub, and Curry Tonight. Orissa is great Indian Restaurant for a treat. The Apiary is good for a pub lunch.
Things to do on our doorstep
Donington Park: Just a stone’s throw away, Donington Park Circuit is a motorsport enthusiast’s dream. With racing year-around, Donington is home to World Superbikes, British Superbikes, British Touring Cars, Convoy in the Park and British GT to name a few.
Staunton Harrold: Home to the Ferrers Centre for Arts and Crafts, with tea rooms, bakery, workshops and artist’s studios. Enjoy walking around the estate, it’s wildflower meadows, woodlands and open water.
Calke Abbey: Historic estate located om Derbyshire, run by the National Trust, located beside the beautiful village of Ticknall. Calke is known for its stunning natural beauty, extensive parklands, and a Baroque style country house that dates back to the early 18th century. Drop in at the Milking Parlour, Tollgate Brewery’s Tap, on your way out of Calke, for good real ale and woodfired pizza.
The Spa at Breedon Priory: Countryside spa offering the perfect setting for relaxation and wellbeing. Cosy, peaceful and calming, set within 24 acres of countryside. Not to mention delicious food!
The Cloud Trail: A thirteen-mile former railway line, tarmacked all the way to Derby and party of the National Cycle Network. Accessible on-foot or bike from Wilson, just a few minutes from Newtons Corner.
